If you are a movie buff, then here’s some news you might be interested to read. Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global are in a preliminary discussion about a potential merger. WB Discovery Boss David Zaslav met with Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish last Tuesday. This came out according to someone familiar with the discussion on Tuesday.

With massive competition from the likes of Apple, Netflix, Amazon, Paramount, and WB is ready to do something about its future. Even  Google’s YouTube has quite a lengthy balance sheet. Discovery is getting their gears all ready to settle for a clear future.

But there is other speculation going on regarding Warner Bros. Discovery’s intention for a merger with none other than Comcast’s NBCUniversal. But this is only possible if Comcast agrees to such a proposal. There may be regulatory issues related to NBCUniversal. It’s unclear compared.

Currently, there may be some regulatory issues with NBCUniversal. However, according to this year’s revenue details, both & Warner Bros and NBCUniversal are the top two studios. However, even though they are smaller, Paramount Global is one of the top U.S. movie companies and has been for a few years.

However, Comcast also brings something to the table. They are the owners of the cable news channel MSNBC. However, this can be or cannot be a problem for regulators since Warner Bros. Discovery has CNN.

What’s important here is the deal structure. If Comcast can spin out NBCUniversal for a merger with WB. Discovery, Zaslav will have a debt-free earning opportunity.

While Warner Bros. Discovery continues to work on reducing its almost $45 billion debt, acquiring Paramount Global would mean adding more debt on top. Because Paramount also has $15 million in debt. Zaslav has already cut off production on much content for Hollywood, and going further with that plan again might cost him more friends than he has already lost.

Warner Bros. Discovery should have a reading of where Comcast stands in terms of its revenue and assets. But whether  Warner Bros. Discovery goes with Comcast or with Paramount Global will surely heat the movie industry discussion a few weeks down the line. However, the start of a new year is finally here. We will eventually get some news soon.
